Mixtures and Solutions Test 2008

Posted by iateacher on April 11, 2008

Attention Parents, Guardians and Students:

We are nearing the end of our mixtures and solutions unit.  The test (as of right now) is scheduled for Tuesday, April 22, 2008 and we will have a review session on that Monday.  There will not be an online sample test for this one because a lot of it is short answer and explaining which the computer can’t grade.  However, here are some things students need to be studying:

Students should know the meanings of the following vocabulary words:

  • mixture
  • solution
  • cubic centimeter (cc)
  • diatomaceous earth
  • NaCl
  • evaporate
  • crystals
  • properties
  • compound
  • solubility
  • concentration
  • precipitate

Students need to know:

  • the three ways we separated mixtures in class
  • what happens to a liquid when it evaporates
  • how to determine if a given chemical forms a solution
  • how to tell if a solution is saturated
  • some ways salt is used today
  • the two ways salt is obtained
  • how to determine the total weight of a solution given

The test is worth 51 points and since we are winding down the school year, please encourage your child to do their best and study hard!!  They will also be turning in notebooks at this time.  The notebooks will be worth about 60 points.
