Hi Tom

Thanks for the comment. Yes, we found out this year that there were quite a few days the students couldn't see the moon. I would like to do it on the fall, but I am using a FOSS kit and we choose to do the Planetary Science kit in the spring because it is a 6-8 grade kit. We have two others we do that are 4-6 grade kits so we wanted to begin with those and get the students used to doing the kits and what their jobs are, etc. I would love to see the packet you used - perhaps there will be things I want to use from it as well! Thanks!

Mr. Yerington;

Stumbled upon your assignment. I did similar moonwatch activity for many years as an 8th grade science teacher. One suggestion:
Do your moonwatch activity in the fall. The skies are generally a lot clearer. At least that is the case in the Northeast. If you would like a copy of the moonwatch packet I used with the students, let me know.

Hi Aneesa,

Have you checked with your teacher to see what s/he would like you to do when you get behind? Is your teacher making a large moon log in the classroom? With my students I had the moon log displayed in the classroom so that if the moon was not visible or a student was simply too busy to get a look at it they could make up the work. There ARE web sites that you can find the moon data on, but again, I encourage you to check with your teacher first, as they may consider this "cheating" and it could affect your grade. In fact, FOSS has a very nice Lunar Calendar that I told my students about because I was focusing on having them make some sort of effort to get it filled out and going to the web site would still be an effort and they would still have to draw it on the moon log.

I hope it works out for you.

I'm glad you have been enjoying it. The reason we missed school yesterday was ICE. I broke a hunk off my driveway and measured it at an inch and a half!! Yuck! Then I was visiting my nephew (5 years old) and fell down the stairs and sprained my foot so I'm hobbling along now, but at least I'm not on crutches!!

Stay tuned for the rest of our exciting school year!!

Believe it or not, I've been lurking around, keeping an eye on things and generally enjoying my peek back into the educational system.

I can't say we're fully recovered from Hurricane Ike here, but things are beginning to sort themselves out, and Christmas will be better than many imagined it could be on the Texas Coast. Believe it or not, here on Galveston Bay we received 2-4 inches of snow a week ago! It isn't anything compared to your winter, of course, but we all were quite excited. It also helped me remember why I'm not eager to move back to Iowa.

My best to you and your students. I'll be eager to see what's on the schedule for the New Year.

Hello,
I am a pre-service teacher studying to be an Earth and Space Science teacher. I am doing research for an assignment on writing a unit test for a topic. Science is my love and I just found your website. May I use your ideas in my own assessment to turn in? It will not actually be used by students only seen by my professor, myself and possibly my classmates. I am also working on an alternative assessment.
I love the look of you website and hope that mine will be so good when I get mine up. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,
Debbie Fisher

Hi, Mr. Y ~

I think I need to brush up before I take your tests! The blog is really neat - as was the post about meeting Mr. Nye. I envied that trip through the lock and dam!

It's wonderful what can be done through computers - I never even had thought about how useful they could be for teacher-parent communication, but it's really a nice thing.

Thanks for sharing the link. I'm going to pass it on to some teachers I know who haven't taken this step yet.

best regards, Linda

Tried to sign your guest book but didn't have any luck with the 6 symbol code.
I try to keep track of space news and ended up on your moons of jupiter assignment page.
Other Comments: I am an almost retired teacher. I do some subbing and work on a web page that you might be able to use.

@ Makenzie and Sammi

Guys, I don't post your PIN online because that is private and personal information. If someone had that number it would be much more likely they would be able to view your grades online. So, if you want your PIN number, and have lost the paper I gave you with it on, you will have to ask me at school.

Thanks

Chase

I assume you figured it out since you are registered, but just in case:

1) Go to http://www.pearsonsuccessnet.com
2) Click on register
3) Enter the access code from the letter I gave you
4) Create your user name and password
5) Log in with your user name
6) You should see your book and on the left is a table of contents to click on whatever section you want

Hope that helps
