Each science class is in a slightly spot right now. I am trying to get everyone back togther. So, here is a detailed list of what each class needs to do for tomorrow:
Period 1 and 3 — no assignment
Period 7 — Attempt the “Retina Review” sheet, we will discuss the questions tomorrow. Some are difficult!
Period 9 — Finish the 3-2-1 write over the retina if they did not turn it in already
Thanks

I gave the chapter 2 test yesterday. The scores were less than impressive for most students. As a result I am allowing them to make corrections using their book and/or notes. However, instead of getting two points per answer they will now get one. This will be due tomorrow if they didn’t get it done in class today.
Thanks

Now that we are past conferences and Thanksgiving and we have full weeks of school for awhile we will be back to having Geo-Themes! Geo-Theme #17-18 will be due this Friday, December 1 for both social studies classes. As I told some of you at conferences, please encourage your child to break these assignments down and take their time. Most of the questions on the sheet are not difficult unless they wait until the last minute and rush. Also, you can remind them that if they don’t understand a question they can see me during homeroom and I will be glad to help them.
Thanks

I would like to thank all of the parents/guardians who came to conferences the last two days! Your support is appreciated. As always, if you need information on how your child is doing feel free to call, e-mail or stop by the school!
Also, if you couldn’t make conferences but would like to talk with me I will be glad to set up a time!
Thanks

Hi parents and students,
I just finished checking the lab sheets over the camera obscura and I just have to say “Whoa! Not good!” I was pretty well shocked. So, I’m here to say, DON’T PANIC!! Because so many students made mistakes I am going to do something I don’t always do.
This Friday after the Mid-Summative Exam #3 we will go over the lab sheet in class. At that time, any student who is not satisfied with their grade may choose to fix their mistakes as I go over it. I will then give the students half of the points they missed back.
I really think the students are learning this material — I just think they are having a tough time putting a full, complete and accurate answer in writing. So, that is what we will work on Friday and in weeks to come.
Thanks!
Mr. Yerington

Students:
Check out http://www.fossweb.com — it has all kinds of fun multi-media games, videos, etc. over all the FOSS kits. We are currently using the Brain and Senses course, but you can explore all of them!
You do need a username and password — use the username media and the password fossuser06
Enjoy!

It seems like it’s been awhile since I posted anything so I thought I’d better get busy and do so! As you may already know, parent/teacher conferences are coming up soon! For those of you who aren’t familer with how those work in middle school let me explain!
First, ALL West teachers will be in the gym. (At this point I belive it will be the large gym.) That way, you can walk in, find the teachers you need to talk to and then head out. Bear in mind that we are scheduled for 10 minutes conferences. So, if you have a lot to discuss, you may need to schedule another time. These conferences are all scheduled by the office.
Also, if you want a conference with me I would recommend that you send your conference request form back or call the office as soon as possible — I happen to know that my Thursday evening schedule is pretty well booked (there are a few openings, but not many!) At this point my Friday schedule is a bit more open.
Walk-ins are sometimes possible if a parent does not show up or a conference goes more quickly than anticipated, but I really cannot promise you will get to see me without an appointment.
Finally, if the conference times don’t work for you, but you would like to conference with me, please contact me — I will work around your schedule because I belive that parent involvement is one of the best things to help students be sucessful.
Thank you and I hope to meet MANY of you soon!
Mr. Yerington
PS — the times are as follows:
THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 16 — 5:00 – 8:30 P.M.
FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 17 — 8:00 – 11:30 A.M.
